Good to be home

As soon as I got home I started coming down with some sort of chest thing. But there was no rest for the weary. I got home Tuesday and was gone again Friday. My brother got married the Saturday after I got home and I was lucky enough to be the maid of honor in is wedding. So Friday evening I stayed in Portland and all day Saturday was pampering and the wedding.

This wedding was SO much fun. The guest list played a huge role in that as it usually does, but my brother and his wife sure know how to throw a party!!! My cousin Sam came all the way from DC for the wedding. My cousin Emily stayed and partied with us, and everyone was in the mood to have a good time!!!! Kudos to Ben and Lindsey for enjoying their wedding and making sure everyone else did as well. I will be posting pictures soon!!! I was the single girl at this event, everyone was very kind and introduced me to alot of their friends, and are trying to set me up with people that they know and like. I appreciate the effort very much and rather than be embarassed about it I take as an honor that people want me to be happy with someone and that they may know someone that may be perfect for me!

I talked with Kenzie today, I miss South Africa very much. Zoe is always on my mind, and so I was very excited to hear she is smiling alot now and recognizing her mom alot more than she was when I was there (a week and a half ago). I was thinking that my next trip to see her wouldn't be for a few years, but I may have to re-think that. So if anyone has interest in going to South Africa with me start saving your bananas now!!!!

Three...

Well I am down to three days left here in South Africa. Today Mckenzie and I went and got pedicures. We also went shopping and got some final things needed for Zoe's room. We also went out to dinner tonight. We went to this Portuguese restaurant. Beside the fact that it was really good food and fun place, we also treated ourselves to a bottle of the best!!! We had a bottle of Beyerskloof Pinotage(sp) wine.... A pinotage is made specifically in South Africa, I believe that some vineyards in california are trying to make it but it originated here and man is it good!!! Kenzie and I also went to a vineyard yesterday which is my favorite name to pronounce it is Vergelegen (all the "G's" have a thick german pronunciation) I got a few bottles of Merlot there, and tomorrow I am going to pick up a few bottles of Pinotage. Needless to say wine tasting at my house when I get home.

Guess what?? This weekend Rolf is making one of his specialties. It is a grilled cheese sandwich made on the BBQ!!! How good does that sound!!! Oh man I can' wait. Also we are having my favorite dinner that I have had here on sunday!!! I will get the name and spelling for you when I figure it out. It is sausage on a roll with tomatoes, onion, and chutney in a sauce that makes it SO SO SO good!!!!!

I would also like to say April, happy belated birthday!!!! Sam I can't wait to see you when you get to Oregon!! Mom I miss you and I am actually looking forward to getting back to work!!!!

Prost!!

One week left.....

Well my time in South Africa is beginning to wind down. I can't beleive I am in the final stretch already it seems like it went by so quickly.

Mckenzie, Zoe and I went to table mountain on friday. It was so pretty up there we could see Robin Island and all of downtown Cape Town. I picked up a few things at the "Shop on the Top" and we made it back in time to head to a family function for a full on Braai (BBQ/Grill). This Braai is a way of life here it is not just something you do, it is what you do. We had a Braai on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday!!!! It was SO good!!!! Friday evening one of Mckenzie's friends Kathy took me out for a night on the town. So I went to Nu Bar with Kathy and Leslie and met alot of people that night. Some interesting stories from that night. I also got a chance to try Savannah light, which is a cider drink. It has a very low alcohol content which means it just fills you up!! I also got a chance to do my first Jager bomb courtesy of JP who was generous enough to buy us our drinks. It ended up being a fun night, but I came home early since we had done so much that day, when they started playing the "Grease lighting Re-mix" I knew I was ready to go home.

Monday we took our trip to the waterfront where I was also able to pick up a few goodies. I am going to post the pics on the snapfish within the next few days so that you can all see my picture with Nelson Mandela, ok maybe it was a statue of him but still!!! I passed on buying the purse with his picture ALL over it, maybe next time!!! Cape Town is great.

It is raining today so we are taking it easy and catching up on some "Friends"!

Cheers!!

Missing out.

I had a great time on Friday at the Rugby game. I stayed in Brockenfell (or something like that) at Andrea's. There was a big group of us that went and luckily there were many people ready and willing to explain the game. This sport is awesome, if you haven't seen a game you are really missing out. It takes the best part of all the "American" sports and then adds this fierce fitness level to all of them.

Also I would like to take this oppurtunity to thank all the foreigners who have learned english making it so much easier for me (and all english speakers) to travel and speak to other people. I have learned so much about South Africa because of the generosity of all these people. So Thank you!!

One other bit of information I learned that in South Africa you have to have a license for...... your television!!!! I kid you not, you have to have a license for it!!!!!! Crazy right!!!!

Pictures soon I promise!!!
